My Cat's Nails Are Irritated

My Cat's Nails Are Irritated

Sometimes our beloved felines come up with a genetic order known as dystrophies. There are several ways in which you can tell whether there is an issue with your cat. You may notice your cat constantly licking their paws. When constant licking of the paw occurs, this could be due to the fact that they have swellness or redness surround their nails, causing irritation for your beloved animal, and their nail plate seems a bit on the deformed side. When these type of issues occur, your cat will tend to have difficulty walking and carry extreme pain in their feet. If you start noticing these type of symptoms, it is best to take your feline friend to the veterinarian to have these symptoms checked out.

What Is The Root Cause To Nail Pain?

When these type of issues occur, this could be very painful for your animal. Usually in most cases they are suffering from a certain type of bacterial or fungal type of infection that if left alone, would only get worse for your pet. In some more serious cases, there could also be a type of cancer or tumor that is growing inside of your feline, or even worse conditions such as immune system type of diseases. This is not something to leave alone, for this can cause even further issues that can even result in death for your poor feline. This is not fair for your beloved pet and if this issue occurs, this is something you want to get checked out right away. Its better to take care of the issue at hand right away, rather then wait around and wait for this condition to worsen.

What Issues Are At Bay

If you happen to notice any type of behavior in their nails, you should first check to see if your beloved pet is suffering from any type of trauma surrounding their nail bed, and see which nail or nails have been affected. If you notice more than one nail that is affected, usually in most cases this is considered a more serious issue that is a major medical condition that needs to be taken care of immediately. If more than one nail is infected, this can also be lupus, or a disease similar to lupis, known as symmetrical lupoid onychodystrophy.

What To Do Once Noticed

Once you see the issue at hand, you need to take your beloved feline to the veterinarian to get the health care your pet needs. There are a few things that a veterinarian will need to do in order to help your pet before things get worse for them. Surgery will most likely be required, as as removal of the hard part of the nail that is causing problems for them. They will need to identify the condition first and treat specifically, and during this process they will provide antifungal soaks so the area will heal. Other cases may require amputation depending on which nail is affected, or if their is a tumor or cancer that has grown, this will be removed as well. Chemotherapy along with radiation may be administered as well. This is something that is considered to be very serious and needs to be taken care of immediately. Your pet will show you the signs if they carry any type of problem in this nature and this is extremely painful for your pet.
