What Are The Symptoms For Gum Disease?

You may notice after time, that your cat may carry a decreased appetite along with a decrease in how they groom themselves. This disease can be very painful for them in their mouths, which is usually the disease-causing all the pain. During this process, they may lose weight, but there are certain symptoms you should look for before waiting till this occurs. Inside of their mouth, there will be a certain type of pockets along with thick gums in the area that is irritated.

You may also notice that they tend to drool more often, along with pus that develops around the infected area. Your cat may also start pawing at their face more often and seem a bit on the irritable side due to the pain that they are experiencing. All of these issues are mainly due to poor hygiene which causes bacterial infections inside of their mouth. Once you notice these type of issues, its best to take your feline to a veterinarian immediately to have this issue resolved at once.

Once You Take Your Feline To The Vet

Once you take your feline friend to the vet, there will be a few tests that will be done. If your veterinarian notices any type of gingival mass located inside the mouth, usually a biopsy test will need to be done. This type of test also checks to see if any type of cancer is present as well, which will then be removed. Also x rays may be done as well to determine the condition your pet has in their gums. After all this occurs, surgery could possibly be done to repair and clean the pus so they can restore back to their healthy condition again.

Your pet will be provided pain relief medication to help with the discomfort or pain they may experience after the surgery is over. Another medication that will be administered are oral antibiotics, to help fight off infections while the gums are healing. Your pet will also receive dental cleaning to remove any type of tartar. Cats usually have good results once the issue is taken care of.
