Heart Attack in Dogs

Heart Attack in Dogs

There are several reasons why your dog might have a heart attack.

Tumor

The first reason is that the dog has a tumor. This is going to be especially true if the tumor is growing around or on the heart vasculature. This is because it is cause the blood to stop flowing to the muscles in the heart.

Hypothyroidism

The second reason is that the dog suffers from hyprothyroidism. This means that the dog's thyroid gland is not going to produce the throxine hormone that it needs. This hormone is responsible for converting all of the food that they are eating into the fuel that they need to be the happy dog that they are.

Nephrotic Syndrome

The third reason is that the dog has the nephrotic syndrome. This is when the dog is going to have damage to their kidneys. When there is a lot of damage to the kidneys, then it is going to cause them to lose their proteins. Therefore, the dog is going to start to form blood clots inside of their body. This is one of the main reasons why the dog is going to be more likely to have a heart attack.

Bacterial infection

The fourth reason is that there is a bacterial infection inside of the dog's body. When the dog has any type of infection inside of their body, then it is going to cause them to have inflammation inside of their body. This inflammation is going to block the flow of blood of the muscles inside of the heart.

Vasculitis

The fifth reason is when the dog is suffering from a disease known as vasculitis. This is basically when the dog is going to have inflammation inside of the blood vessels. This is going to cause them to have a few things that are known for causing heart attacks in dogs. These things include an immune mediated disease, an injury to the endothelial linings, or an infection. All of these things are going to cause a narrowed vasculature, which lead to a heart attack.

Atherosclerosis

The sixth reason is when the dog has a condition known as atherosclerosis. This is when the dog is going to have a buildup of plaque inside of their arteries. This is going to restrict the flow of the blood to the heart that can cause the arteries in the heart to rupture. Even though this is rare in a lot of dogs, there are some times when it is going to happen to some breeds of dogs.

Coronary artery disease

The last reason is when the dog has something known as coronary artery disease. This is something that is going to be very rare to be found in dogs. It is only going to occur in dogs that have severe hypothyroidism. But it can also be associated with the dog's levels of serum cholesterol.

If your dog has any of these conditions, then you need to be aware of the fact that they might have a heart attack. If you notice any of signs of a heart attack, you should take the dog to the vet immediately, so that the vet can check and make sure that your dog is going to recover from the heart attack without any additional problems in the dog's future.
