Does Your Dog Seem Lethargic?

Does Your Dog Seem Lethargic?

Everyone loves their dogs. They are your best friend. They are always there to sit by your side and listen to you, without offering any unneeded opinions. They come up and cuddle with you, when you are sad, and lay by you when you are sick. They are also there with you to enjoy good times. Dogs love going outdoors with their buddy to run, and play. So don't you think you should pay attention to them, when they need you?

You know everything about your dog, right? You can tell when they are happy, guilty, sad, or sick. So, when you dog starts to seem a little too sleepy, lazy, or just plan immobile, these are warning signs. Your dog can't tell you whats wrong with them, but they can show you. This is when they just don't seem the same. They don't want to go out and play, or run, even indoors. It's time to show you care, and take your buddy to the "Vet". They may not like it, most dogs don't, but it it whats good for them.

The vet will run tests, some of these include, measuring the dogs blood glucose, tests to check kidney, liver, and pancreas for proper functioning, CBC, electrolyte tests, urine, thyroid, and cortisol tests, as well as possibly an ultrasound, to check for tumors. When it all said and done, lets say, the vet says your dog has Hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar. yes, dogs get the same problems as us humans. This would definitely explain their lethargicness, and inactivity. So, what's the next step?

You vet will begin to treat the Hypoglycemia, which may a symptom of another underlying problem. This can be oral or intravenous glucose supplements, and also other treatments, depending on what the "underlying" causes are. Make sure to follow all the vets recommendations, and instructions, and to follow up with the vet, on your dogs conditions.

Hopefully your buddy will not be suffering a terminal disease, and will be able to bounce back to his old self.Sometimes it is minor things that cause this major illness in dogs. It could be from ingesting artificial sweeteners, too much glucose in the body, during pregnancy, or even delayed times of feeding times. This is especially true, in toy breeds. You must treat your dog like children. You are responsible for them, and must watch them at all times.

In time, your dog will get back to their old self, but you must follow the vets' instructions. Yes, it can start costing a bit of money, but isn't your buddy worth it? Just keep up with the medicines, instructions, and vet visits, and you will have your buddy back, before you know it.
